The Beatles - Here Comes The Sun
“Dad, who was your favorite Beatle?”
I remember asking this question after hearing some friends talk about it...
The Beatles - Norwegian Wood (This Bird Has Flown)
It’s an honour to post the first song for Beatles Week. How can I choose my favourite song?...
Another happy marriage

The Blue Aces - a local band that I just heard for the first time yesterday. I think they have a great sound - if you agree pass this along!
The tiny $35 Raspberry Pi computer went on sale today, crashing its distributors’ websites on the way to selling out within hours of launch.

A Little Help From My Friends - The Beatles
With Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band, the Beatles successfully help create the concept of the musical alter-ego. Sasha Fierce would not exist if it was not for John, Paul, George and Ringo. Yes. I went there.
Personally, Sgt. Pepper’s is my favorite album to listen to all the way through, no skipping tracks, in order. Have you ever listened to a recording of a live concert? It’s such an experience to listen to it the whole way through, like you were almost there. Well, I feel the same about this album.
This track is sung by Billy Shields, a.k.a. Ringo Star. Now, while a certain Tuesday panelist whose name might rhyme with Mandrew has issue with Ringo, I find his story to be fascinating. He spent the majority of his childhood in the hospital sick, and ended up being in one of the most influential bands of the century. If you do have the time I suggest you 1) listen to Sgt. Pepper’s all the way through and 2) have some Ringo appreciation time and look up his bio.
Enjoy!

The Beatles - Let It Be
The Beatles have been ever-present in my life from Beatles Brunch with my dad to specific songs taking on their own time and place. Strawberry Fields Forever was constantly sung with a co-worker at Bengies Drive-In. Across the Universe is connected to a post-show high because it was the song at the end of a play where I had the lead role. I could probably go on naming connections to all of the Beatles songs. This has been my toughest choice of what to post on Soundboard. Normally, I only have a song from an album to choose from but this is trying to choose from a legacy. It eventually came down to the song that I think has had the most impact on a lot of people. Let It Be is one of the simplest messages you could possibly put into a song. It’s so identifiable with people of every credo.
I always interpreted Mother Mary as a religious lyric but the truth behind it was that Mother Mary was McCartney’s mother who visited him in a dream when the Beatles we’re in the middle of tense recording sessions. She died of cancer when Paul was fourteen. In the dream his mother told him, “It will be alright, just let it be”. It really makes the lyrics “And in my hour of darkness, she is standing right in front of me, speaking words of wisdom, let it be” take on a whole new meaning. A month later the Beatles were no more.
